Rodessa woman dies in one-vehicle accident
A 31-year-old Rodessa woman died in a one-vehicle accident at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday on La. 169 about three miles south of Mooringsport. The driver of the vehicle is in critical condition at LSU Medical Center.
Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Rodger Page said Marie Simon Hicks, 31, of 10464 La. 168 West in Rodessa, was the passenger in a southbound 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Steve Cornett, 34, of 8311 E. Down Street in Shreveport. Page said the pickup truck apparently slid on the rain-soaked pavement at an "S" curve in the highway, crossed the northbound lane, went through a ditch on the east side of the highway and hit two pine trees before flipping over.
Caddo Parish Deputy Coroner Vicki Foster pronounced Hicks dead at the scene. Emergency medical personnel from Caddo Fire District No. 1 treated Cornett at the scene before Balentine Ambulance Service transported him to LSU Medical Center. At 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Cornett was listed in critical condition.
Page said the incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
