Professional Development
Professional Development is responsible for Administrative and Detention Bureau training, research and planning, firearms inventory and policy issues.
During the past fiscal year, Professional Development coordinated 14 joint in-service training exercises for Sheriff's Office line employees. During these 40- hour sessions, each participant exceeded the minimum in-service training requirements for peace officers in the State of Louisiana. The course was such a success that many other agencies elected to send their officers to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office for their annual training.
Also adopted this year was a Roadside Scenario Training Program. This training would simulate actual situations that a deputy may encounter while performing patrol duties. Again, outside agencies asked to be included in this valuable training.
In an effort to get new information rapidly to those who need it, a Roll-Call Training Program was developed. This program provided supervisors with a custom-made, ready-to-teach lesson packet, complete with a video and exams.
