Civil

Business as usual describes the past year in the Civil Division. As an arm of Louisiana's First Judicial District, the division has its finger on the pulse of Shreveport, Caddo Parish and Louisiana, and its statistics serve as a barometer of the area's economic health.

The number of papers processed and served continues to increase, as do the fees for that service. However, the number of Sheriff's Sales and the commissions they generate have decreased.

The addition of judges and courtrooms to the First Judicial District, as well as additional caseloads in other area courts, caused the increase in papers. The decrease in Sheriff's Sales and commissions reflects the upward trend of a healthy area economy.

Civil Division process servers continue to change their areas and hours of service to handle the increase in papers and to serve the courts in a timely manner.

Newly designated "civil specialists" continue to process all the papers and court orders, execute all Sheriff's Sales and garnishments and collect and distribute all receipts and fees. All bookkeeping and accounting is also handled by the civil specialists.

The 16 employees in the Civil Division continue to strive for excellence using the newest methods to serve the citizens of Caddo Parish effectively and efficiently.
