Health Services

The Health Services Division provides medical attention to inmates at the Caddo Correctional Center (CCC). Staff health care professionals provide around-the-clock, on-site nursing care Monday through Friday. On-call nursing personnel handle medical needs as they arise on weekends.

A physician comes to CCC twice a week to provide medical care to the inmate population. Dental services are also provided twice a week in-house.

The Caddo Parish Commission adopted a Medical Co-Pay Policy that has significantly reduced the taxpayer-borne cost of providing medical services to inmates. Moreover, the new policy has reduced the number of minor illness complaints from inmates. Under the policy, inmates must pay for certain medical and dental services as well as most prescription medications.

The Health Services facility is equipped to handle most of the inmates' medical needs. Examination rooms, dental facilities and a ward for inmates too ill to stay in a housing unit have eliminated most of the need for expensive and risky trips to area clinics and hospitals for treatment.

Isolation wards for inmates with highly contagious illnesses also contribute significantly to the reduction in off-site transportation. The isolation wards are ventilated so that contagious airborne germs are not allowed into other parts of the unit.
