Sheriff Hathaway invites citizens to join fight against crime
Responding to the increasing number of people wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime, Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway today announced that citizens are being invited to join of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program.
Membership information packets have gone in the mail, Sheriff Hathaway said, and individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for as little as $20. Businesses can show their support with a $35 contribution. The funding provides critically important technical resources, training and public service programs related to key criminal justice issues.
"In addition," Sheriff Hathaway said, "funds raised through the Honorary Membership Program will be used to support crime prevention and awareness programs, promote public safety, fight drug abuse, provide educational scholarships on a statewide basis and provide additional training for our deputies."
Sheriff Hathaway emphasized that the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program is conducted by direct mail only. "No telephone solicitations are ever made to the general public," he said, adding that contributions are tax deductible.
"With government funding becoming increasingly difficult to secure," the Sheriff continued, "the Honorary Membership Program has taken on greater importance than ever before. The funding is vital to help us carry out our mission of making our communities safer places to live, work and play."
Citizens who do not receive a membership information packet in the mail or who would like more information may obtain it by calling Sheriff Hathaway's office at 677-6611.
The Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program was started to provide citizens with the opportunity to lend their support to more effective law enforcement and to better help local sheriffs protect their lives and property.
"As the need for building stronger public-private law enforcement partnerships in this country continues to escalate," Sheriff Hathaway said, "efforts such as the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program continue to grow in importance. I encourage everyone receiving an information package to consider joining forces with us by becoming an honorary member. It is a valuable investment in our future."
The Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program is a non-profit professional and educational organization dedicated to the preservation of peace and the protection of the lives and property of Louisiana citizens.

Caddo Parish residents invited to fight crime
Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway is inviting Caddo Parish citizens to join law enforcement officials in the fight against crime and to show their support of that fight by joining the Louisiana Sheriff's Honorary Membership Program.
The Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program is a professional and educational organization dedicated to the preservation of peace and protection of Louisiana citizens' lives and property. Caddo Parish residents will soon receive membership applications in the mail.
"Joining the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program is voluntary," Sheriff Hathaway said, "and I encourage all citizens to favorably consider this opportunity to demonstrate their support for the outstanding service their Sheriff's deputies provide to our community."
Membership dues are $20 for individuals and $35 for businesses. All Honorary Members receive a membership card, window decal and a subscription to "Louisiana Sheriff" magazine. In addition, business members receive a wall plaque. Automobile plates are available for an additional $5.
Funds generated by membership dues are used to support statewide and local crime prevention awareness programs, promote public safety, fight drug abuse and provide educational scholarships. Statewide dues help local law enforcement officials better protect the people of Louisiana.
"I hope the law-abiding citizens of Caddo Parish will join me in the fight against crime," Sheriff Hathaway said. "Citizens can show their support for good law enforcement by joining the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program."
"It is difficult to get an application to everyone who might want to join the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program," Sheriff Hathaway commented. Anyone who does not receive an application by mail may come by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office in the Caddo Parish Courthouse and pick one up. Citizens may also send their names, addresses and checks to the Louisiana Sheriffs' Honorary Membership Program, 1225 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
