Caddo Sheriff announces holiday hours of operation for Tax Office

The Caddo Sheriff's Tax Department will be closed for the Christmas holiday December 24-25 and for New Year’s December 31 and January 1. Tax payments will be considered delinquent if postmarked after December 31.

Located inside the Caddo Parish Courthouse at 501 Texas Street, the Tax Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Payments can be made in person, by mail, on-line at www.caddosheriff.org, or by calling 1-800-272-9829 and selecting jurisdictional code 2800. Payment options include cash, check, cashier’s check, money order or credit card. Payments on the website are made by credit card. A convenience fee collected by a private processing company for phone or on-line service will be assessed.

The mailing address for the Caddo Sheriff’s Tax Department is P.O. Box 20905, Shreveport, LA, 71120-0905. The phone number is 681-0638, and the fax number is 681-1179.

Questions about tax bills and the assessment of property should be directed to the Caddo Parish Tax Assessor's Office at 226-6701.

If you did not receive a bill, you can view tax information at www.caddosheriff.org.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator is reminding taxpayers they can sign up for the pre-payment program beginning January 1 to avoid lump sum end-of-the-year payments.

Payments made either monthly or quarterly are deposited into an escrow account and applied to property tax bills when they come due at the end of the year. Taxpayers estimate their own future tax liability and divide their payments throughout the year accordingly. Any additional taxes owed after the escrowed payments are billed on the annual tax notice. Overpayments are credited to next year’s taxes.

Pre-payments are accepted from January 1 through October 31 each year. Applications are available on the sheriff’s website.
