This release corrects the Caddo Sheriff's Youth Firearms Safety Education Camp dates.
Free summer camps and programs offered by the Caddo Sheriff's Office are now in session, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Sheriff's Safety Town is offering one-day safety mini-camps for groups wanting children to learn more about safety. Sheriff’s deputies will teach the basics of personal safety, bicycle and motor vehicle safety, fire safety, gun safety, and stranger danger. Each program will be tailor-fit to the group requesting it. To organize a group program, call Sheriff’s Safety Town at 698-7233. The mini-camps will end on August 4.
The Sheriff’s Youth Summer Recreation Program offers a variety of activities including basketball and table games for children and teens ages 10-18. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays in the gymnasiums at North Caddo High School on Airport Road in Vivian; Northwood High School, 5939 Old Mooringsport Road; and Midway Elementary Professional Development School, 3849 Greenwood Road.
Each location is supervised by instructors provided by the Caddo School Board and school resource officers from the Caddo Sheriff’s Office. Pre-registration is not required, and there is no fee. The program will continue through July 14. For more information on the summer youth recreation program, call the sheriff's Youth Services Unit at 681-0771.
The Caddo Sheriff's Youth Firearms Safety Education Camp will be held June 26-28 at the Sheriff's Regional Training Academy. Children between the ages of 10 and 14 can choose one day of the week to participate in supervised firearms safety education and .22 rifle target shooting with Caddo deputies. Campers will shoot stationary and moving targets and can compete in shooting contests to win prizes. Additional activities will include K-9 and SWAT demonstrations along with fun-filled water activities to close out the day.
Each camp session begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. The camp is free, and transportation is available if needed. Applications for the Firearms Camp can be obtained online at www.caddosheriff.org or picked up at Sheriff’s Safety Town. Applications should be mailed to the Training Academy at 15639 Highway One South, Shreveport, 71115, to complete the registration process.
